There's so much data in the world, and the amount of it continues to explode. We were saying that five years ago, and it's even more true today. A lot of people are drowning in their data and don't know how to use it to make decisions.
The midterm elections are held on November 8, and all 435 voting seats of the House of Representatives, 35 seats in the Senate, 39 state and territorial gubernatorial elections, and numerous state and local elections are decided. Georgia's Senate election went to a runoff between Democrat incumbent Raphael Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker a month later, which Warnock ultimately won. The CMA and other regulators now have the unenviable task of untangling these arguments between Sony and Microsoft and figuring out exactly how this deal could harm consumers or competition. Microsoft still hopes to close this deal out by spring 2023, but there’s a good chance we have months of battles ahead — as well as the opportunity to gain rare insights, as with these mobile plans, into the secret ambitions of the gaming industry. Sullivan rules that Postmaster General Louis DeJoy's changes to the USPS prior to the 2020 United States presidential election had harmed USPS mail delivery. The 65-page decision also puts countermeasures in place to prevent DeJoy from implementing such changes ever again.

Particularly well known was a case involving a dark-web site called “Welcome to Video,” which had facilitated some 360,000 downloads of sexually exploitative videos of children to 1.28 million members worldwide using bitcoin. As set up under the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act, the CFPB is funded by the Federal Reserve rather than congressional appropriations. That way, in the Obama administration’s view, the agency could avoid political influence and be funded similarly to other banking regulators.

Approval is higher in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles than in the Inland Empire, Orange/San Diego, and the Central Valley. About half or more across demographic groups approve of President Biden, with the exception of those with some college education (44%). With about two weeks to go before Governor Newsom’s bid for reelection, a majority of Californians (54%) and likely voters (52%) approve of the way he is handling his job, while fewer disapprove (33% adults, 45% likely voters). Approval was nearly identical in September (52% adults, 55% likely voters) and has been 50 percent or more since January 2020. Today, about eight in ten Democrats—compared to about half of independents and about one in ten Republicans—approve of Governor Newsom. Half or more across regions approve of Newsom, except in the Central Valley (42%).

Microsoft previously claimed that Sony is paying for “blocking rights” to keep some games off Xbox Game Pass and now says that’s the case with Call of Duty. “The agreement between Activision Blizzard and Sony includes restrictions on the ability of Activision Blizzard to place Call of Duty titles on Game Pass for a number of years,” says Microsoft in its filings. Epic eventually called on Microsoft to help argue its case in court, and Microsoft cranked up the pressure on Apple with some significant Windows store changes days ahead of the Epic v. Apple trial last year. Microsoft is building an Xbox mobile store to directly offer games on mobile devices, challenging Apple and Google. The software giant first hinted at a “next-generation” store it would “build for games” earlier this year but has now quietly revealed details of the plans in filings with the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority . May 13 – Federal judge Liles C. Burke blocks the implementation of a law in the state of Alabama that criminalizes prescribing gender-affirming puberty blockers and hormones to transgender minors. May 3 – Chief Justice John Roberts responds to the bombshell report from the previous day by both confirming that the first draft of the opinion is authentic and ordering the Marshal of the United States Supreme Court to commence an investigation into the source of the leak. April 16 – The inaugural 2022 USFL season begins with the Birmingham Stallions taking on the New Jersey Generals, marking the return of the USFL for the first time since 1985. New York Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin resigns after being indicted for bribery, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and two counts of falsification of records. March 10 – The 2022 MLB Lockout comes to an end after 99 days after a new CBA is agreed to, with the season delaying its start to April 7 but still playing all 162 games. January 18Smartmatic announces that it has sued My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell for defamation, accusing him of defaming the company to sell pillows.

Federal judge Jon S. Tigar issues a ruling that restores federal protections under the Endangered Species Act of 1973 that had been previously gutted by the Trump administration. The Department of Justice reports that it is investigating potential violations of civil rights by the state of Texas in its multi-billion dollar border mission. July 6Senator Lindsey Graham vows to challenge a subpoena by a grand jury seeking his testimony in the criminal investigation about interference on the part of former President Donald Trump into the 2020 United States presidential election in Georgia. Ketanji Brown Jackson is sworn into the Supreme Court, becoming the first Black woman to serve on the court. June 29 – The Supreme Court rules that states can prosecute non-tribal cases in Indian country, partially overturning a similar case in 2020. The Nevada Supreme Court rules that ranked voting in the state is able to go to ballot, but both tax petitions and vouchers are unable to go to ballot.
Republican Joe Sempolinski wins the special election with 53.3 percent of the vote over Democrat Max Della Pia with 46.7 percent of the vote. Despite his victory in the special election, Sempolinski opts against running for reelection in the regular election to occur in November.
